Bute 4 and his first swim meet

Butes 3 and 4 started swim team this year, which was a stretch. They could barely swim a few strokes free style at the beginning of the summer, but they have been working hard, practicing in the cold water every day (our pool is not heated and our nights have been quite cold this summer). Finally, this week, they were ready for their debut in the 8 and under freestyle relay. The night of the swim meet was unseasonably cold -- the spectators were in jeans and sweaters. Event 74 is almost at the very end of the meet and they waited patiently in the cold until it was their turn. Their coaches carefully herded them to the appropriate lane and here, in Bute 4's words is an account. It was heart warming to watch the coaches and team members and parents cheer them on as we all wondered if they would actually make it all the way.

I was so busy cheering for Ford I forgot to dive off when he got out. The people that were timing told me to dive in.
