Well, we paraded the whole troop through Jeff's office this morning to meet some of his coworkers and to give the kids an idea where he works. Nothing like trying to keep your four-year old from melting down about his toy train while in earshot of one of the VP's offices. Suffice to say we made a brief visit with out causing Jeff any disgrace and high tailed it out of there to a noisy playground!! I had forgotten just how chaotic and illogical the Austin highway system is. My google maps instructions had no less than 7 instruction lines simply to get me onto a highway from within sight of the entrance ramp. After 5 or 6 "Texas U-turns" and a one unplanned toll, we managed to mail a box at FedEX, pick up a picnic lunch and make it to the park.
The boys finally got a chance to run amuck with their pretend guns for a while. When it got too hot we picnicked in the shade. Unfortunately we had forgotten to get any plastic knives to spread our cream cheese, so one of the new toy Bowie knives was pressed into service. Have you every tried to spread cream cheese for 6 hungry kids with a flexible rubber Bowie knife? After some nourishment was consumed (along with a healthy dose of dirt) we took a train ride around the beautiful park near downtown Austin. Bute5 was just the right age to be enchanted with the idea of riding on a "real" train.
Now I am hiding in hotel room while Bute6 naps. Grandma is handling pool duties with the rest. I hope my diligent application of sunscreen allows us to escape this latitude without any sunburns. Jeff is busy in the airconditioned offices of NI
