C-A-N-D-Y

Even though we only trick-or-treated in one neighborhood this year (we did not go back to trick-or-treat at our old house, we still have a pile of candy left. My current strategy is to dole it out two pieces every day. But before they are allowed to dig into their candy they need to check in to make sure that their afternoon chores are finished adequately. Everyone understands that talking about candy in the presence of Bute6 is highly dangerous because if she hears the word "candy" she instantly demands some. So the question that I regularly hear in the month after Halloween is "Is it time for C-A-N-D-Y?

Of course, it is important that everyone eats their candy at the same time because in addition to eating their two allotted pieces it is an opportunity to trade. In the Buterbaugh family the most valued candy is a Reese's Peanut Butter cup. It is reported that Bute3 will trade 4 other candy bars for a Reese's. There were also a few Watchamacallits in the candy haul this year and their scarcity and novelty made them prime objects for some lively bidding wars!
