A big week for both Bute1 and Bute2. Bute1's troop held a court of honor where he received his second class rank as well as three merit badges. These merit badges were actually old merit badges which had been brought back for only one year to mark the 100th anniversary of scouting. There is a man whose grandsons are in Bute1's troop who had earned these badges 50 years ago and he taught the boys tracking, signaling (morse code) and pathfinding. It was very interesting to see the old requirements. For instance in pathfinding you were supposed to draw a map of all the farms within a 5 miles radius of your house and list which ones had which kinds of animals!!
Bute2 received the Arrow of Light award, which is the highest award in cub scouting. Next week he crosses over to Boy Scouts.
