For a variety of reasons our landlocked family has not been to the ocean for a long time (I was pregnant with Bute5 the last time we saw an ocean). For that reason it was a high priority for us to experience the Pacific Ocean on this trip. Bute1 had asked if we could please have some time on a sandy beach since he loves to build elaborate sand castles. So after the hectic pace of the wedding weekend, we headed to the sandy beaches of Oregon. We rented a fantastic house with stunning view of the Pacific and a HUGE sandy beach. We spent a day and a half enjoying the sounds and smells and sights of the ocean. All the Butes spent plenty of time in the sand. A few of us polar bears braved the frigid water to do a little bit of body surfing (very little bit, the air was only 50 some degrees and the water in the 60s).
