Thank you thank you Sam I am!

When are kids were all little and the days, especially in late winter, tended to blend into a never-ending series of feedings and diaper changes, I created some family rituals to mark the days and preserve my sanity. Now our days are marked by the passage from one sports season to the next and scout rank to the next. However the kids seem reluctant to let some of our rituals fall by the way side which gives me a real feeling of satisfaction, that these little family celebrations really do tie us together.

One of those celebrations is the annual observance of Green Eggs and Ham Day on Dr. Seuss's birthday, which is March 2. From the veriest early days of babyhood, our children have been familiar with whole repetoire of Dr. Seuss. In fact Jeff and I know most of them from memory. We also over the years have accumulated quite a collection of stuffed animals from Dr. Suess books, many of which are well worn and well loved. Green Eggs and Ham Day, or course, begins with a breakfast of green eggs and ham (thanks to food coloring and mint jelly).









We have also collected a repetoire of other Seuss inspired meals from our own imaginations and from two different Green Eggs and Ham cookbooks.

This year I am sad to say that we actually forgot about Green Eggs and Ham Day on Mar. 2, so we had to celebrate a few days late, but celebrate we did. It is the one day a year that the stuffed animals are allowed to join us at the table.
