Fort Clatsop

We ousted our exhausted troops from bed at 6am yesterday in
order to get to the coast before heading north for the wedding festivities. We studied Lewis and Clark's journey this year and had already been to Pittsburg and St. Louis where they had spent their time preparing for the journey. Since we were this close I really wanted to see Ft. Clatsop where they had spent ghe winter of 1805, at the western end of the journey. There is a replica of gar fort they created near the Oregon coast which you can go inside and imagine what it was like to spend 4 cold rainy months. The boys seems to really remember any historical site that you can really interact with rather than just look at. They also had a costumed interpreter show them how to fire a flintlock musket -- not a rifle. I have learned a lot about historical weapons from homeschooling- my boys are always curious!
