Sunset limited

The beginning of this leg was the least pleasant train section as it was an hour late and the train car we were supposed to ride in was crowded and we all had to split up and sit with strangers. At midnight we pulled into San Antonio where we had to get up so they could switch all the seats to the opposite directions so we could join the rest of the Sunset Limited form New Orleans to LA. Finally after the new cars were connected a conductor helped us find seats together, but it did I involve shuffling everyone to a new train car at 3AM.




We awoken to the stark of West Texas landscape at had breakfast in El Paso. We later passed so close to the border we could see Jaurez. We crossed the Rio Grande which sat this point was very unimpressive. In fact we called it the Rio Pequeno. We saw a spectacular sunset in Arizona. At last we climbed off in Tucson. Exhausted and jet lagged we dragged all our luggage to the bus station, where several very friendly locals helped us find the bus to the airport. Our kids were fascinated by pull cord to request bus stops. They were disappointed to discover we would not need to use the pull cord since the airport was the end of the bus's routes. Amused many of the locals allowed our kids to pull the cord for them at their stops. One of Charles Murray's questions about wether or not you live in a middle class bubble is whether or not you have ridden a city bus, so we feel that this was part of broadening our children's horizons!












Finally after long trek through the airport we arrived that the rental car counter. Bute5 was looking wistfully at the Mustangs while Jeff filled out the paper work. Imagine his thrill when Jeff showed him the keys to the Mustang we had rented for our second car!
